The Search for Dupes is On!

I originally posted on Instagram my quest to find dupes for the Lime Crime Velvetines.

As you can see I headed straight for my NYX Matte Lip Creams to find some possible ones.
While I love the NYX Matte Lip Creams, I noticed that the dry-down time was slower than the Velvetines. Probably because NYX is a cream formula that takes slightly longer to dry down to a matte finish than do the Velvetines which are liquid and dry quicker.

As you can see in the above photo, NYX Monte Carlo appears to be close but has more pink tones when compared to Lime Crime's Red Velvet.

When it came to Lime Crime's Suedeberry, I swiped NYX's Antwerp, however it was much lighter and pinker. NYX's Amsterdam didn't really make the cut.

Well, luckily I was near a Sephora and a Macy's, so I stopped in see what I could find!

Happy Dance!!!

I found them! Pretty good dupes. I have a good eye for color.

For Lime Crime's Red Velvet, try Kat von D's Everlasting Love Liquid Lipstick in Outlaw. It has the same liquid style formula and dries down to that beautiful velvety red! You can get that at Sephora. It was sold out when I visited mine.

Onto the next...

For Lime Crime's Suedeberry, try Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Carina. This also has that same liquid formula that dries down to matte velvety finish. Both lippies had staying power because I had to use several wipes to wipe them off my hand!

~

Interesting side note for the Suedeberry dupe, I wasn't satisfied with the possible dupes when I was in Sephora. The Suedeberry is a bright coral red. It was a good thing I took another look at the Stila display before I left the store!

I did find other good matte alternatives similar in color. Not exact but similar. They were mostly in lipstick format.

Yves Saint Laurent has two good matte reds: #201 and 203.

Sephora has their own matte lippies in 3 shades of red. I actually bought one and am working on a swatch. Sephora Color Lip Last: Numbers 18,19 and 20.

Nars has good matte reds. One is a dupe for Mac Marilyn's Deeply Adorned. So I found another dupe too! Try Mascate, Vesuvio and Amsterdam. Both the Mascate and Amsterdam were in that range where Deeply Adorned is. They are both dark reds. One with brown tones and the other with berry tones. I would go for the Mascate as a dupe. It was sold out.
Above pic: Out of the four colors swiped, ignore the top one.
2nd is Nars Mascate - very close dupe! BINGO!
3rd is Nars Amsterdam - brownish red.
4th is Nars Vesuvio - rich red.

Here's Nars Mascate. My preferred choice for Deeply Adorned dupe.

That concludes my DUPE HUNT! Hope you find the lippies I wrote about in this blog.
Stay beautiful lovelies!

The Power of the Internet

This was something I posted on my Facebook page about my lip art and the internet.

Here I'll take the direct statement and do a cut/paste:

LIP ART:...I was perusing the web and seeing where my lip art photos wind up. Interestingly I did a Lip Art of Superman logo on my lips for a contest last May 16, 2012 (simply because he's my fav superhero next to Wondy and thought the emblem would look cool on the lips and kinda fits - the 5-sided shape). Found a posting of Superhero Lip Art done this February 2013. No one else had done that kind of art before on the lips. It makes me realize the power of the internet and the influence of artists (little guys like me) do have. I hope whatever I do does inspire you and it's pretty cool to see that. But you heard it here so now you know! I'm going to post the links of my photo and theirs. They went all out and made the skin silver and did a Batman version and Captain America.

Interesting, eh? Amazing, what you put out there in the internet world. I believe it's the great equalizer far surpassing death. Meaning it equalizes everybody. We can voyeur into the life of a uber-rich person or follow the life of an average John or Jane Doe. But that's veering slightly off the topic. I guess my point is while you are expressing yourself artistically, you are going to run the risk of someone liking your idea or art and running with it. It happens all the time. So you're either an innovator or an imitator. Which do you think is best? Which are you?

Here are the website links:

Interesting story about when I did the "Superman Lips"... I was dressed as Clark Kent that day. It was dress-up day where I was working. It was the easiest thing for me to throw together instead of trying to get into my Wonder Woman costume! Androgyny! I was the female Clark Kent or Claire Kent, perhaps? LOL...

My Sweetheart Affection for Pink Lips

I created another Gallery for Pink Lips. I realized I have more pink lipsticks than there is space in the collage, so this image is appropriately titled, Pink Lips Gallery 1. Which means more pink lip swatches and galleries to come. Pink lips, what's more girly than that?

Top Row:
Flower by Drew Barrymore - Camellia Charm. A pink nude with velvet finish.
Wet 'n Wild - Mauve Outta Here. A classic opaque mauve-pink.
MAC - Show Orchid. A bright pearl pink-fuchsia, amplified finish.

Middle Row:
Wet 'n Wild - Pinkerbell. A yellow-pink, semi-matte finish. Purported dupe for Mac's Nicki Minaj Viva Glam.
Maybelline: Fuchsia Fever. A bubblegum pink. Smooth, creamy finish. I keep noticing many dupes for this one in other lines! Maybelline has a nice girly scent to their lipsticks.
Wet 'n Wild - Dollhouse Pink. A cool blue-pink, semi-matte finish.

Bottom Row:
Revlon - Matte Story Pink. A pale neutral matte pink. Had to swipe several times to get coverage. Very natural look.
NYX Aqua Lux Glam - Pink Jewel. A frosty pale blue-pink. Great silky smooth coverage and feel.
MAC Pigments - Rose Light. A frosty light warm pink.

Do you heart Pink Lips? What's your favorite pink lipstick?

My Cat, the non-blogger

Found my cat on the bed...comatose.
He was zoned out. In deep feline dreamland.
(pardon the mess)
When awake, he does like to watch me tinker about.

This is Wolfgang William I.

aka Baron von Wolfie.
He is a ragdoll.
He's got his own FB page.
He sends his kitty love to all you out there!

BB Creams/Cremes!

BB Creams or BB Cremes as they are spelled...
Apparently all the rage now. Popping up in every cosmetic line.
BB stands for "blemish balm"...A hot beauty trend popular in Asia.
Touted as the 'all-in-one' cosmetic product.
A quick search in Wikipedia, and you'll find more info...check this link out:

My journey into this realm really began in a shopping trip. I didn't read up on anything, no one told me and I didn't see it online (just yet). I did notice L'Oreal had this B.B. Cream. I picked it up and started reading...hmmm.

  • Primes
  • Perfects
  • Hydrates
  • Corrects

They had a tube open as someone already did a little drugstore testin'. I squeezed out a sample. It was whitish and grainy then it 'magically' transformed into a close, natural almost non-makeup match to my skin color. It looked smooth. Hey this stuff is neat. I got a tube in "Light".

My foundation of choice (I do have many, too many) is usually Lancome. My skin and makeup always look nice with Lancome foundation. However using the L'Oreal BB Cream was nice too.

It does what it says "magic skin beautifier", "flawless bare skin finish", "over time more beautiful skin"...and "instantly transforms to your perfect shade for a flawless bare skin finish"..."ultra-light lotion with antioxidants Vitamin C & E"...well you get it...it sounds good, doesn't it?

Well, I discovered more BB Creams out there and there are just too many now. I decided to explore other options from cosmetics lines that I've always adored, like Dior and Too Faced. Dior was the first makeup I used for my prom, so I have fond memories of that.

Dior has three BB Cremes. Unlike L'Oreal, their BB Cremes (spelled "creme") come in different shades. Some of the formulas depending on which almost remind me of tinted moisturizers. They are all nicely fragranced and pricey.

1) Dior Hydra Life BB Creme Enhancing Moisturizer for Immediate Beauty SPF 30. I tried this one out in Sephora then I got a freebie tube sample. The color is supposed to be universal. For my light skin, it is more yellowy although I can see this working in the summer when I get more color in the sun. I like the texture, coverage and fragrance. Although I decided to pass on buying a full tube for now.  Pump-tube. Retails: $56. Sephora Exclusive.

2) Diorskin Nude BB Creme Nude Glow Skin Perfection Beauty Balm Sunscreen SPF 10. Notice the lower sunscreen factor. This version comes in 4 shades. 001, 002, 003, 004. The 002 was sold out at Sephora. I got the 001 which is a fair shade. (I can go between the two). This is nicely fragranced, not as thick as Hydralife, again more reminiscent of a tinted moisturizer. And I do have the Hydralife Tinted Moisturizer which is great. I think this is a Sephora exclusive as well. Pump-tube. Retails: $45.

3) Diorsnow BB Creme White Revel UV Protection SPF 50. Notice that this is the highest sunscreen factor of the bunch. This comes in Transparent and a nude universal shade. I got the universal shade. I like this as it's not as yellowy as Hydralife and is thick in texture. A Nordstorm exclusive. Pump-tube. Retails: $50.

4) Too Faced Tinted Beauty Balm Multi-Benefit Skin Care Makeup SPF 20 in Vanilla Glow. This comes in 4 shades and I got mine at Ulta. I like the botanical extracts in this version. There is no discernable scent but it is thick and blends nicely. Squeeze-out tube. Retails: $30.

5) Drew Barrymore's Flower BB Cream (BB2) exclusively at Walmart. I just got this one. Tried out a little. Not fragranced but reminded immediately of drugstore makeup. There are tinted moisturizers in this line but it's too early for me to say if this one is any good. Comes in 4 shades. The promise from this tube of BB Cream is that it is the "4-in1- Skin Solution" that will "eliminate skin dullness, covers imperfections, discolorations, softens and smooths skin and eliminates unwanted shine." (Check back again for the update to this once I use it.) Squeeze-out tube. Retails: $9.98.

6) L'Oreal Paris BB Cream. Comes in 4 shades in Fair, Light, Medium and Dark. Whitish, grainy liquid that magically transforms into your shade. Promises are that it "primes, perfects, hydrates, corrects". Squeeze-out tube. Retails: $8.00.

So which one do I like or recommend? It's really depends on your budget and makeup line preference. One MUA really raved about Maybelline's BB Cream. I haven't tried that.

Out of all of them for the low-budget version, L'Oreal tops it out. It's really good. I like how it's not tinted and transforms on your skin. The results of using it do match up with the promises on the packaging. As for high-end versions, I would go with DiorSnow because it has the highest SPF 50 and comes in a translucent and universal tinted version so you have that choice.

Happy BB Balming!

Do you have a favorite BB? What do you think of this trend?

And the winner is...

I announced the winner of my 1st giveaway late last night.

It was @mizkatrockz. I had my daughter pull out the name from a reused Mac Cosmetics black shipping box.
I was definitely stoked in doing this. I'm planning on doing another one but not anytime soon.

So while I did a giveaway, I got something goodies too. I decided to try out "Glossybox". So I got my package and opened it to find "The Man Repeller" goodies. A full-size tube of red Tarte lipstick and other neat stuff!

Here are shots from the giveaway which you can see in Instagram too. I'm going to post Glossybox shots in another post.

How do you feel about giveaways? What stuff have you won?

Goodies in the Mail

I love getting packages.
It's that feeling of knowing something special is awaiting you in the box. Something good.

Archie's Girls...

Ronnie Red Lipstick

Veronica's Blush

So cute. I don't even want to use them...just yet.

Hoped I could get the Betty Bright lipstick but it was sold out online as you well know in my other post (I had it in the shopping cart then poof! it was gone). Seeing so many swatches online, it does look pretty. It's probably sold out at the stores by now. I could try tomorrow. But you know I've spotted some dupes and I've been meaning to mix my OCC Lip Tars to get that color. Probably even have a close dupe myself too. Need to dig through the tons of lippies I have already. PS. Compact with hearts remind me of Physician's Formula Blushes with the hearts. I have a compact. Good thing there are some makeup lines where products are always available and not limited edition. Good to have alternatives! So did you get anything from this collection?

Here's a nifty iPhone shot. Just in time for Valentine's Day.

Love That Red Lips

Focus: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in "Love That Red" #725

I mentioned in another post that I would talk about some of the red lippies I had. Well I started a profile on Beautylish.com today and created a "Red Lips Gallery".

The first lipstick I posted is #725. Out of all of the Revlon red lipsticks, it ranks up there with Fire & Ice as red shades that just pop for me. I really love this version of red because it's just screams GLAM. And if you've never noticed the fine print on the sticker on the tube, it reads (in French, part of my family is french) "Nuance: Rose Adoré". I would definitely say that I love this red! In the photo I lined my lips with NYX Lipliner in Ruby

As for Revlon  quality, I kinda went back to try Revlon again as I used other brands for so long. I think the quality is great (did they improve the formula over the years? don't know) but the range of red shades all had great coverage, color selection, pigmentation and wear. Plus it doesn't hurt your makeup budget at around $5.49 if you get it at local stores. My goal is to get the best picture quality of the lipcolor. I think the above does the job. What's your favorite red lipstick?

Happy Red Lips!

Eye Makeup Removers

My all-time favorite eye makeup remover is Lancome Bi-Facil. If you can't get it discounted at a Lancome Outlet store well then you have to shell out $28 for a single bottle.

For those of us like myself who wear waterproof mascara and heavy eye makeup, you know you need a good performing eye makeup remover. Luckily I've found a good substitute at Target for $5 that does an equally good job at removing makeup - the Target brand, Up & Up.

I recommend this when you're out of your Lancome Bi-Facil (until you can make it out to the company's outlet store and they sell the combo set where you get two - good deal). Also interestingly enough, the Target brand contains Cucumber extract and Aloe Vera. All in all, I like them both. Do you have a favorite eye makeup remover?

Wet 'n Wild, Dupes and Saving Money-UPDATED!

Wet & Wild Megalast Lipsticks

If you haven't checked out the products from Wet 'n Wild, well I ask you to take another look. Especially the lipsticks. Not only are they super affordable, like $1.99 or 99¢...well many of the colors can pass off as dupes (what the cosmetics world likes to call 'knock-offs' of department store brands, most notably Mac Cosmetics). Since many of the Mac Collections that do come out are limited edition and favorite lip colors get sold out before they even see the light of day, well folks gotta find alternatives. And Wet 'n Wild has come through, wonderfully on many of those fav colors. I've started a small list and will update as I research this and wear the colors myself. What I love about the Wet 'n Wild lipsticks especially the Megalast ones are not only are they affordable but they have a semi-matte finish and they last! Here ya go:

From left:
1) Megalast Cherry Picking: This is a pink-red.
Dupe for Love Goddess by Mac

2) Megalast Dollhouse Pink: This is a cool blue-pink.
Dupe for Mac St. Germain/Pink Nouveau.

3) Megalast Pinkerbell: This is a warm yellow-pink.
Dupe for Mac Nicki Minaj Viva Glam

4) Megalast Purty Persimmon: This is a warm red-orange.
Dupe for Mac Scarlet Ibis, Mac Lady Danger and Mac So Chaud.

5) (middle in silver tube) is Silk Finish "Cherry Frost". No dupe as far as I know. (no picture)

6) Megalast Think Pink: Middle of the road pink neither too warm or too cool.
Dupe for Mac Creme Cup.

7) Megalast Sugar Plum Fairy: is a dupe for Mac Rebel.

8) Megalast Just Peachy: is a dupe for Lime Crime's Babette.

9) Megalast Bare it All: is a dupe for Mac Cherish.

10) Megalast Red Velvet: is a dupe for Mac Red/Russian Red.

Mind you these dupes are pretty close!
Do you know of any other dupes in this line? Any favorite dupes?

This list/post will be updated or I'll just post an update when I find more dupes. Ha!
Enjoy! Save money!
Stay sweet lovelies!
~Duchess

P.S. Quick photo on my iPhone produced this.
Some of the lippies featured above!

Lips of Steel, Baby!

Trying to make the midnight deadline to post for Thursday, alas I missed it! But Happy Trendy Thursday anyway! This trend started last November (could have been earlier) with Grey lips popping up on the runway. Mac Cosmetics came out with "Grey Friday' on Black Friday soon followed by Estée Lauder Gunmetal Luminizer lipstick. Urban Decay has a version called 'Oil Slick'. And there are others. These limited edition grey lippies are available on eBay for $$$. I personally didn't jump on that bandwagon even when Mac did the Grey Friday. It looked like an opaque grey. I was like 'meh'. Well the picture in the ad is not the true color of the lipstick (as most of you already know) and it doesn't look 'grey' on your lips necessarily because coverage doesn't really produce a true 'grey' lip. I used Makeup Forever's Flash palette (best grease paints out there) to make my own homegrown grey lippies. Using the black and silver. Now I'm trendy and I've got steel lips too!

What do you think of this trend? What type of grey lips do you like to wear?
