NYX Purple Lipsticks

NYX Purple Lipsticks

I've been hearing the frustrations of not being able to find the Limited Edition Maybelline Purple Lipsticks from as far away as Singapore.

Don't fret everyone!

There are alternatives.

NYXCosmetics.com is one of them.

Here are alts for the 3 purple lippies from Maybelline.
I personally have Castle which is a shimmery soft plum.

NYX Extra Creamy Round Lipsticks

Try Bruised (deep violet cream)

Try Violet Ray (violet cream)

Try Medusa (violet cream)

Try Castle (shimmery plum)
I have this lipstick and will post a swatch of it soon.

UPDATED: Swatch of Castle
Rated: 5/5
Smooth, creamy coverage.
For those that are afraid of purple,
it's a great 1st purple lippie to try!

These lipsticks retail for about $4.00 which is not bad. So you can buy a bunch to try. Plus they offer international shipping. I think the purple lipsticks dilemma has been solved for the time being!

Maybelline Fall 2013-Limited Edition Purple Lippies!

Maybelline Fall Runway Limited Edition 2013
Purple Lipsticks

Lavender Voltage
Violet Intrigue
Midnight Plum

Midnight Plum
If you love dark purples, this lipstick is very much there.
It reminds me of Wet'nWild's Cherry Bomb - that vampy brownish dark red.
However this lippie has strong purple tones.
It needs to be swiped several times to get the coverage I got.
Make sure you prime your lips before applying to get maximum results.
These lippies —like a majority of the Maybelline collection—
have a creamy formula with buildable coverage.
Rating: 5/5

Violet Intrigue
If you still haven't the courage to wear a strong purple lipstick, then this shade is for you.
It's a subdued purple (reminds me of RiRiBoy and Up the Amp) and less intense yet very wearable for those who want to wear purple but are just not sure of wearing darker shade or the vibrant purple.
I didn't have to swipe as much for this lipstick as I did the other two.
Rating: 5/5

Lavender Voltage
I really like this purple from the collection.
It reminds me of Mac's Heroine similar in color but not in finish as Heroine is matte.
If you love Heroine, check out this lippie and get it as it's limited edition.
Rating: 5/5

There is a 4th lipstick in this collection that is a fuchsia pink called "Fuchsia Fierce".
Very dupeable (especially if you have the Vivids or Fuchsia Fever) and they seem to release a version of it in all their collections. I'd skip it.

Did you get anything from this collection?

TOP 10 PURPLE LIPPIES

Top 10 Purple Lippies

You need in your life!

1. Mac Dominate (LE): this was part of the Mac Nudes and Metallics Pro lip collection online.
A lightweight frost finish but not skimpy on boldness. If you didn't get this, fear not, Lime Crime's Poisonberry is a runner-up and available.

2. MUFE #15: screams 'I am purple royalty' in a lipstick.

3. Mac Heroine: the most popular lippie next to Candy Yum Yum and most wanted of all lippies in terms of being part of the permanent collection, alas it's not. It was last re-promoted in the Mac Fashion Sets in spring. Keep your eyes out when it does get re-promoted and get it if you haven't. A must-have.
Otherwise, Milani's Violet Volt is a great dupe.

4. OCC Hoochie: I originally have Belladonna which is OCC's 1st purple lip tar.
This is a slightly lighter version and available as the other is discontinued. Very nice!

5. Lime Crime Airborne Unicorn: I think they put purple on the map?
Well this is the definitive purple lippie.

6. Lime Crime D'Lilac: this is the Rolls Royce of lavender lippies.

7. Covergirl Divine: a drugstore lippie that is an affordable and pretty must-have purple.

8. Lancome Violette Coquette: yes it is still in the box, so how did it get on the list? I swatched in store and fell in love and if you didn't know by now, Lancome makes great lipstick.

9. Mac RiRiBoy (LE): this is a very pretty retro matte lavender purple. It looks mauvish on my lips but paired with Heroine or Nightmoth lipliner, you can rev it up! If you missed out, well you must try again on the next release.

10. Milani Violet Volt: this drugstore lippie is the metallic version of Mac's Heroine. Get it. I promise you, you will love it forever! Melon scent is to die for. Can't find at your drugstore? which is what I always hear! Don't fear, go to milanicosmetics.com or cherryculture.com.

There are many, many more purple lippies out there that deserve to be on this list. I'm seriously considering doing a top 25! But these are some really nice ones you need in your life!

WetnWild Fergie Limited Edition Eyeshadow Palettes

WetnWild Fergie Limited Edition Eyeshadow Palettes

I was excited when I found these! I nabbed both Limited Edition
palettes from WetNWild Fergie.

Top is Shades of the Hamptons
Bottom is Newport Nights

Eye of the Week: Shades of the Hamptons
My take on a natural pastel eye look.
Used Lime Crime Unliner in Blue Milk.
1. Light blue on eyelid
2. Dark blue on crease
3. Pink on brow bone
4. Green on waterline
5. Gold in corner of eye
6. Finish with black mascara
7. Brows using NYX Brow Kit

Eye of the Week: Newport Nights
This palette was very chalky. It's predominately peachy.
The pinkish mauve just didn't turn up even with a base and mixing medium.
Still working on getting a good eye look with this.
I will update this post when I do!

What do you think of these palettes?

Stay sweet lovelies!

TOP 10 RED LIPPIES

Top 10 Red Lippies

You need in your life!

1. Mac RiRiWoo: I would have picked Ruby Woo, it's the universally flattering matte blue-red lippie.
But they reformulated it with the Rihanna Hearts Mac collection and this is better version.

2. Revlon Love That Red: total glam in a drugstore lippie.

3. Milani Red Label: this vinyl finish which is unique to this brand and the melon scent
makes my lips bigger and the color is pigmented and long-lasting.

4. NYX Matte Perfect Red: a mid-tone red that is matte and long-lasting.

5. Flower Rosebud: from Drew Barrymore's new collection at Walmart.
This lippie is gorgeous and long-lasting. Love it.

6. Lime Crime Red Velvet Velvetines: the fun liquid lipstick that dries down to a velvety-matte finish.
The red is glamor and gorgeousness in one.

7. Lime Crime Suedeberry: is the brighter coral red version of the Velvetines.

8. Wet & Wild Megalast Red Velvet: affordable red lipstick and is a dupe to Mac Red.

9. OCC NSFW Lip Tar: true red where a little goes a long way. Can be mixed be other lip tars to achieve a variety of colors.

10. Lime Crime Retrofuturist: this lippie always gets me compliments. One of the best reds out there.

TOP 10 PINK LIPPIES

Top 10 Pink Lippies

You need in your life!

1. Mac Candy Yum Yum: It's no wonder this lippie got picked to be permanent.
It is a loveable matte neon pink that looks good on everyone.

2. Mac St. Germain: gorgeous pale pink lippie with amplified finish. Girly.

3. Mac Pink Plaid: a matte neutral pink. A staple for those low-key days.

4. Wet&Wild Megalast Dollhouse Pink: the prettiest cool-toned blue pink reminiscent
of Barbie and bubblegum. For $3, it has become one of my staples.

5. Wet&Wild Megalast Think Pink: also made it on this list.
It's a neutral mid-tone pink.
Affordable and long-lasting as well.

6. Milani Rosehip: is fun bright pink and that melon-scent is to die for!
Goes on smooth and is super pigmented.

7. Lime Crime Geradium: a bright warm pink that goes on opaque, creamy and vanilla-scented.

8. MakeUpForEver #15: a super long-lasting neutral pink that can be worn either matte or lacquered.

9. OCC Pretty Boy Lip Tar: a bright pink where a little goes a long way and is long-lasting.

WetnWild Pop Art Craze Eyeshadows

Wet & Wild Pop Art Craze Eyeshadows

These were an amazing find and a pretty neat collection. There are 6 palettes in the Pop Art Craze collection. It was a late night run to Walgreens. I was surprised to find these and lucky as they were tucked away on a middle shelf. They are hot items! If you find them, get them. You get to play with non-neutral colors for price of one Mac lipstick. They retail for $2.99 and if you have a $1.00 coupon well then it's $2.00 for each palette. Amazing. Some of these needed extra help to look vibrant.

Here's my review, my take and what I came up with using these palettes.

To Muse and Carouse
This was the 1st palette I gravitated to. I loved the peach, blue and brown combo.
My idea that popped into my head was a brown cut crease. I used Mac Dipdown to darken the brown as it's not as dark on it's own. I used Maybelline's Oh So Berry mascara on bottom lashes.
The peach was a bit uneven in application but other than that it rocks!

I'm Seeing Triples!
It was a late night and decided to do some diagonals on my eyelid. These are super-pigmented.
I played around with Maybelline's Green with Envy mascara and added a falsie on the bottom
with Glitter eyebrows on top.

Three's A Party
With this palette, I was inspired to do a runway/couture-inspired eye.
I used Lime Crime Milky Way Uniliner on bottom.
I used the red shadow to create the red liner on top and the brows are reddish too. These are pretty pigmented but using Mac Blacktrack, NYX Blackbean or Stila Smudgestick in Black as a base helps deepen and make it long-lasting.

Your 15 Minutes Aren't Up!
This palette reminds me of Barbie. Girlie pink, purple and yellow. Used Maybelline's Wink of Pink mascara all around to compliment pink. Using Max Fix+ helps on top of a base of Urban Decay Eyeshadow Base (or Lime Crime's Eyeshadow Helper) and NYX Eyeshadow Base in White
(or Nyx Milk Jumbo eye pencil) especially to bring out the yellow eyeshadow.

A Regular at the Factory
This palette reminds me of a safari in Africa.
I like how the blue mixes with yellow to create a green.
I used Mac's Mixing Medium to blend.
Thanks to Wet&Wild for liking this pic on Instagram!

Hard Being the It Girl
This palette wasn't the best out of the bunch.
The pink and yellow aren't strong colors and are very chalky.
However the blue is, so I created a gradient blue eyebrow.
Used Maybelline's I See Blue mascara and added more
blue to bottom lashes with Nyx liquid eyeliner.
Second shot added pink falsies by Red Cherry.

Cheap and fun to play with!

Ombre Lips

Ombré Lips

If you haven't noticed or known about it (and that's ok if you didn't), ombré lips are a very hot trend in makeup. They started a while back being featured in a magazine shoot. It has since evolved and pretty much everyone has created their own version. I posted a pic I took at Walgreens on my blog a while back. It featured Maybelline's display of the "Ombré Look".

Here are tutorials on how to achieve Ombré Lips.

A collection of my Ombré Lips feature on IG called "Ombré of the Week". Enjoy!

And even using Kleancolor!

Sugarpill Elektrocute

Sugarpill Elektrocute Sparkling Neon Pigments

I love neon. I highly recommend Sleek Acid palette and MYO pigments for true neon looks.
I was excited to hear about Sugarpill's new neon collection.
I always like to add more colors to the loose pigment collection.
So far I've used just one color in an eye look and decided to test the pigments out on my lips.
I had loved Goldilux pigment on my lips but these had different results.

The pigment has lots of fallout. But I'm still trying out different bases and mixing mediums. The base I used in the photo below is NYX Milk and Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer.

Here are the results on the lips:

By the far, Hellatronic (blue) and Love Buzz (pink) yielded the best results on the lips. They mixed much better and weren't as grainy and gritty as the other three: Sparkage (green), Hi-Viz (yellow) and Supercharged (peach). I used OCC Lip Tar in clear as my mixing medium.

The ones that were too grainy and gritty for the lips:

Sparkage lost it's bright neon green when mixed.
Looked more like a St. Patrick's Day green.

Supercharged like Hi-Viz was also too grainy for lips.

I alternated and tried other mixing mediums.
I applied sheerly but it lost most of it's neon quality.

Well other than that, I'm going to continue trying them out on my eyes
in different looks and anywhere else. I'll post those results later.

What do you think of Sugarpill's Elektrocute collection?

Stay sweet lovelies!
